Is Your Website Clear About Privacy?

If you use the web as a way to attract customers to your business then you should be interested in a survey commissioned by Privacy and American Business and conducted by Harris Interactive.

The survey asked people who identified themselves as online users if they had ever decided not to register at a website because they found the privacy policy of the site too complicated or unclear.

Sixty percent said they had left a website because of privacy concerns. That percentage represents over 94 million U.S. adult online users.

The lesson for businesses is that online sites need clear, easy to read information about how the company uses personal information provided by the consumer. And consumers should be given the choice of opting out of any sharing of personal data. The survey shows that companies who don’t do this risk losing customers.
