Calling Card Thieves

Play It Safe…Or Pay The Price

Pay phones can cost you more than higher long distance charges. If not careful, you can help thieves to steal your calling card number — through eavesdropping or technology which reveals the buttons you push when making a call. These stolen numbers are then sold to others and hundreds of dollars are charged to you in a matter of minutes.

Be wary of onlookers when using a public phone. Try to make your calls in enclosed, safe areas or use phones that allow you to “swipe” your card, eliminating the need to speak or punch in numbers. To ensure your call is not being monitored, pick up the handset and hang up, wait 15 seconds and then place your call. This will disconnect any calling card thief on the line.
