I find today’s report rather amazing. It has to do with those annoying pop-up ads you get on your computer but with a new twist.

A WTOP listener writes that he had been getting the usual pop-up ads when he surfs the internet, but about four months ago he started getting them even when he wasn’t online. At first they were just general product ads, but then as the frequency increased to about 15 pop-ups a day, the ads focused on selling software that would stop the pop-ups.

He did some research and found that a California company was selling the pop-up ads and the protection from the ads. It’s like someone calling on the phone day and night offering to stop calling for a price. The company boasts that it sends 135,000 of these pop-up ads an hour. Our listener figures that a lot of people have probably paid the price just to get the pop-up ads stopped.
