Phishing Using Yahoo for Bait
Be on the alert if you use a Yahoo e-mail account because there are crooks out there who are using Yahoo’s name in phishing attempts.
Ellen had just signed up for her Yahoo e-mail account and received an e-mail that welcomed her and asked that she take three steps to receive additional services from her account. The e-mail said it would automatically transfer all of her e-mails into her new account, so she entered her password and some additional information. She received an e-mail stating that the transfer was a success.
But when she looked in her mail folder it was empty. Where were the emails that had been transferred? Then she began to notice strange e-mails and feared that the information from her
e-mails was being used to steal her identity because several of them contained financial information such as account numbers, passwords and a host of other sensitive info.
